Send outbound email through this server's mail settings, Resend, your own SMTP server, or a connected Gmail account.
Carbon uses email for transactional messages such as order confirmations and notifications. Email is available on every plan and supports server mail, Resend, SMTP or Gmail delivery.
On a single-tenant deployment (TENANT_TYPE=single, a self-hosted Carbon) whose server has mail settings, every company can email quotes, orders, invoices and RFQs without installing this integration: they go out through the server's mail settings, from the server's address under the company's name. Install the integration to have replies go to your own address, or to use your own Resend, SMTP or Gmail account. On Carbon Cloud, or a server without mail settings, install the integration with Resend, SMTP or Gmail.
These settings apply to every email Carbon sends for your company: quotes, orders, invoices (including automated ones), purchase orders, RFQs, user invites, two-factor emails and notification emails. Sign-in codes and emails from Carbon itself, such as onboarding tips and the changelog, always go out from the server's sender address.
If a send fails through the provider you chose, the email is not sent another way.
Choose a provider
Select Server mail, Resend, SMTP or Gmail. Server mail is offered only on a single-tenant deployment (TENANT_TYPE=single, a self-hosted Carbon) whose server has mail settings (SMTP_HOST), and is the default there. Carbon Cloud does not offer it: pick Resend, SMTP or Gmail. The configuration fields change for the selected provider.
Fill in the provider fields
For Resend, enter the API key. For SMTP, enter the host, port, credentials, and TLS setting. For Gmail, pick the Google account to send as. Server mail needs no credentials. Configure the from address for every provider except Gmail, which always sends as the picked account. With server mail, documents are sent from the server's address under your company's name, and replies go to the address you enter; leave it empty to have replies go only to the person who sent the document.

Gmail
Connect a Google account
Open the Gmail integration and connect the account that should send your email. The Gmail integration is available on the Business plan on Carbon Cloud.
Pick it under Email
Open Email, select Gmail, choose the account under Gmail account, and save.
Google limits how many emails an account can send each day, and the limit is lower for personal accounts than for Google Workspace accounts. When the limit is reached, your company's emails fail until Google resets it, and the person who last saved the Email settings gets an in-app notification. If your company sends many notification emails, use a Workspace account or another provider.
